As august marches on, hints of fall begin to appear in the early morning hours across the nation, leaving evidences of the coming autumn in cool temperatures and in the faint smells of seasonal change. With this changing time of year and season comes the changing of sport; baseball and the boys of summer gradually give way to football and the hard hitting, fast running, smack talking boys of fall.
Students at the University of Florida may not recognize the changing seasons due to their residence in a location of perpetual summer, and so instead have to rely on the outbreak of two-a-days from their football club to signal the emergence of fall and of the changing season. As the tackle dummies get pounded upon and the coaches whistle their complaints and rather loudly shout their instructions, students across the campus at the University of Florida can enthusiastically say “its college football season!”
The preview for the Gators this football season looks good, as usual. Only the highest of expectations exist both in the locker room and throughout campus that once again, this year will be a year of champions.
Coming off last year’s record of 11-2, the Gators are poised again for success despite having lost a few key players, including defensive standout Shariff Floyd. Coaches and players alike are optimistic that they have the needed talent on both sides of the ball to get the job done.
With a recruiting class highlighted by the best high school running back in the nation, Kelvin Taylor, the Gators are looking to garner even more success in the upcoming season.
